In this electronic era one of the device every one likes to have with them is Computer, whether it may be in the form of laptop computer or a Desktop Computer.According to 2009 statistics 354,000,000 computers are sold in only 2009 which means every day around 969,863 computers were sold and approximately 11 computers in every second. From the time you have started reading this post and now there may be 100s of computers sold all around the world. And how many of them do you think are buying computers knowing a computer with which specifications will exactly meet their requirements. I think even one forth of them don’t do that while buying. So I like to give some tips for buying laptops for newbies.
Not Just the Processor Speed:
The immediate question every one asks us if we tell that we have bought a computer is “what is the processor speed ?”. And many of us answer it by telling it as 2.2 GHz or what ever mentioned by the processor manufacture. But it cant be called as the processor speed, it is the clock speed of the processor. It is the frequency of clock operating inside the processor.Thespeed of a processor is measured in FLOPS(Floating Point operations) i.e in G(Giga)Flops or T(Tera)Flops .Actually the clock speed or the processor speed is not only the main factor to compare the performance of a processor.Another important factor is the cache memory which plays a vital role in performance. After careful observations it was identified that every computer user access some group files more frequently than other group. So if every time processor checks the entire harddisk to open the file,it takes a lot if time so it was proved that the access is much faster when the locations of files which are accessed more frequently are stored in separate memory which is called as cache memory. So a processor performs better when both cache memory and clock frequency are high.
Summary: A processor with high clock frequency and high cache memory is better.
Not Just the Storage capacity of Harddisk:
The second thing every asks about a newly bought computer is its harddisk capacity. Now a days the minimum is 320GB .But the capacity of the harddisk is not only the thing you should think before purchasing a computer.Since the harddisk is made up of magnetic material which revolves and access data from different locations of the disk.So the performance of computer is strictly affected by the speed of revolution of the harddisk. The higher is the better. The presently available hard disks in market have a speed of 7200 rpm.
Summary:A harddisk with higher rpm is better.
Not Just the RAM Capacity:
One more specifications many of us are asked by our friends is the RAM capacity.RAM is nothing but the acronym of Random Access Memory. It is the place where all our programs are stored when they are executed. The capacity of RAM is not only the factor that effects theperformance of your computer ,the other you must consider before buying it is the transferrates, operating voltages of the RAM which are particularly defined by its standard. The present day standard is DDR3 .You can read more about these technologies in my previous post “Samsung’s New DDR4 RAM Increase Data Transfer Rates Rapidly ”.
Summary:A RAM with latest technology is always better.(DDR3 is preferable)
Not Just the high cell Battery
This is applicable only to the laptop aspirants who are planning to buy a laptop.Battery is one of the most important device which adds life to the laptop.A battery can be said to the best if it gives you the maximum discharge time ,minimum charge time and has maximum life time. The main factor every one of us should consider before ordering for a battery is its no of charge and discharge cycles which will be specified by the manufacturer.Normal laptopbatteries have a life time of 300 charge and discharge cycles which makes the battery to work normally for an year.To get more insights do look into my previous post “Increase The Life Time Of Your Laptop’s Battery ” .
Summary: Battery with maximum lifetime is always better and preferable.
Not Just the version of Operating System:
Now a days due to availability of many flavors of Operating systems like Linux, windows, mac every one is thinking just about the flavor but not about the architecture on which it is made up of.Since all the present day processors are of 64 bit type if we run a 32 bit or(x86) version of OS then it means that we are making our computer to under perform than its capability.Since the processor is capable of processing 64 bits at a time then we should allow it to do so.So a 64 bit OS is always preferable.
Summary:Use the same OS type as of your processor.
